This past weekend, we travelled to Spokane for our friend's wedding. Our first trip as a family went very well! Cadence behaved amazingly and kindly slept the entire way to the historic and luxurious Davenport Hotel, only waking once for a bottle and going right back to sleep. The trip, like any, was tiring, as Matt had worked night shift the night before and I was up late packing for Cadence and I. Boy, babies need a lot of stuff, attempting to anticipate "costume" changes and diaper needs was interesting.
Upon arriving to the hotel after a 4 hour drive across Snoqualmie pass (the pass was bare and wet), we had to scramble a bit to get ready for the wedding rehearsal and rehearsal dinner. It was fun to see Joe's parents, who live in Spokane, and show Cadence off to the entire wedding party. She was a big hit EVERYWHERE we went, and I mean everywhere. From walking through the hotel, to the street, to people actually interrupting our dinner to say how cute she is. She IS precious beyond words, but come one people, let us eat, and if you ask if my baby is a boy again, I'll back hand you. (she was in jeans, a frilly onesie, a BOW, and a colored fleece vest was near by (she spit up on it or else she'd be wearing it)). An older man mentioned he thought she was a boy based on her wearing jeans, to which I replied, "I too am in jeans, am I a boy?".
The wedding on Friday was lovely. The hotel was decked out in Christmas decor everywhere you looked. The wedding ceremony and reception was held in a gorgeous ballroom with marble everywhere, a pretty Christmas tree and classic and elegant decor on the walls and ceiling. Cadence was "in" the wedding as an extra flower girl. Obviously, she was carried down the aisle by me. Another mom walked with us with her 2 year old who was the other flower girl. Matt was the distinguished best man in the wedding and per normal, he looked very handsome. There were a few other kiddos in the wedding, Cadence was one of the most well behaved. She made a few peeps during the ceremony and I popped a bink in her mouth and she settled well. The ring bearer, Ethan, did the yoga pose downward dog in the middle of the ceremony, and walked around and asked for cookies and chocolate for the remainder of the time. Ah to be 2!
We had a fun time in general, we were both pleasantly surprised at how well Cadence did away from home, and we look forward to our future family trips, but a mom and dad only trip would be great too!
