Seafair Weekend

Seafair weekend brought significant amounts of calorie consumption, as well as much needed playtime.

Saturday brought swim time with Betsy, Mia, Cadence at I at the gym's pool. Between Mia jumping off the side of the pool, me throwing her (from in the pool), attempting some laps, (and by plural laps, I mean 2), dunking Cade and keeping her afloat, and avoiding the 3 or 4 year old girl at the gym who I continually run into, who knows no boundaries, we ended up with tired girls.

After swimming, and sucessfully getting both Cadence and Mia to fall asleep in the car, we headed to Sammamish for some teriyaki take-out so we could hang with Joey and give him his medicine while mom attended the opera. How swanky. Oo la la. It was quite a party day, we eventually hit Betsy's house where we had a bon fire.

Bon fires, since the arrival of Betsy's amazing fire pit and patio set, have been an awesome new ritual. Far too many gourmet (made with Reese's peanut butter cups) s'mores have been consumed, as well as beers, brats, and brie. What more does one need? (seriously!) Cadence is the perfect fire kiddo. She'll happily eat cheerios or graham crackers and just quietly lay on someone before eventually falling asleep. Last night, she passed out on me....

Betsy and I learned an extremely valuable lesson when it comes to lighting fires. We can't do it. Once we grabbed the gasoline to try to get things going, I imagined a news headline "Local sisters die in blazing inferno". We couldn't even get a fire going with gas, WHAT THE HELL!?! Dry news paper? Check. Dry logs? Check. Matches? Check? Gasoline?? CHECK! NOTHING!!! Thankfully Matt was en route from his off duty, and per normal, Matty to the rescue. Imagine in a cave person's voice, "Matty make fi-yah!" Apparently you have to build a "house" out of wood or a "teepee" to get a fire going. Bets and I attempted for 30+ minutes, and Matt started a roaring blaze in 30 seconds. Of course. Note to selves, don't go into the woods on a survival mission. Betsy and I would not survive.

Randi was even kind enough to stop by for a quick hello and a treat before heading to a disturbance. (Ah the joys of Betsy's house being in Kirkland, thanks annexation!)

Sunday brought breakfast at George's, de-lish! We also headed to Luther Burbank park to attempt to see the Blue Angels. Mission accomplished! While we weren't too close to the log boom, we were close enough to see some great fly-bys and snap a few pictures. Cadence was tired after an early (for us) morning and playing with Mia, so she was fussier than normal when she heard the engines of the jets, but she enjoyed it for the most part.
