Pete and Kelsey's Wedding Rehearsal

Few things are as great as shortened work weeks, for both Matt and I, but weekend wedding adventures come quite close. Thursday afternoon after a leisurely morning of hitting snooze repeatedly, we packed up for a trip to the Leavenworth area to celebrate the rapidly approaching nuptials of Pete and Kelsey. It was bound to be a fun and memorable trip to the area where Matt and I got engaged. It was fun to see Leavenworth bare of snow but for me the feeling was very bittersweet and almost sacreligious as Leavenworth to me is like the Bavarian North Pole, meant to be snowy, magical, and full of Christmas spirit. The lack of snow certainly made the travel time quicker and significantly easier, particularly in travelling over the pass. We made record time getting to our condo and I am proud to say that I stayed awake for the entire trip. Typically I'm asleep after 20 minutes in the car.

We arrived at the Icicle Inn and were very pleased with the accomodations, a 3 bedroom condo that we'd share with Tom, Martha, and Pete. The condo was well equipped and larger than our house! We spent some time freshening up before heading to the grand rehearsal for the big day. The wedding is being held at a gorgeous B & B called The Beecher Hill House. http://www.beecherhill.com/ . Since the wedding is on the smaller side, we met a majority of the family and attendants upon arriver for the rehearsal. I was surprised to meet the pastor's wife who also is pregnant, but a good month behind me. You'd never know that it was her 4th baby, particularly since she was likely a size 0 and 100lbs soaking wet. It was interesting that so many people knew that Matt and I are expecting.... the attention is still unnerving at times. I often feel like people hear that I'm pregnant and immediately gaze at the belly..... No, its not going to do a trick. I'm hardly showing if at all, I notice physical changes and differences in the way things fit but overall I'd say that I'm enjoying concealing the belly as long as I can. I'm not a fan of physical changes, particularly those that center around weight gain, pregnant or not.

The practice run went very smoothly and quickly and was arranged for the wedding to be outside. (there's a back up in the house near a nice fireplace should the weather do as the forcast predicts) The surrounding area of the house is lovely, overlooking apple orchards and mountains with a nicely landscaped yard. After the rehearsal, we enjoyed a tour of the rustic house. It was pretty neat to see such individual rooms with themes, even the bride had quite an extravagant bathroom to get ready in. Other rooms were decorated to cater to the weekend traveller and the gamer like in "The Boardroom" , an attic like area for the Groom and Groomsmen to get ready and play poker and I'd imagine smoke some cigars and drink whiskey.

We headed to the dinner portion at one of our favorite restaurants, Cafe Mozart .http://www.cafemozartrestaurant.com/   Each Christmas trip to Leavenworth, we'd eat at Cafe Mozart. Tonight we joined most of the wedding party and Kelsey's family for dinner of schnitzels for some and salmon for others, martinis, wine (my glass was fab, not cab) and Matt's liter of lager, and topped off the night with apple streudels. After a nice dinner we headed back to the condo for an evening of digesting and playing Apples to Apples.

Tomorrow's the big day and we're looking forward to the main event. If its anything like the rehearsal, its sure to be memorable and fun.
