As previously blogged, Matt and I just celebrated our one year wedding anniversary. :) There were no gifts of paper or clocks or paper clocks, and that was fine with me. We did exchange wonderfully sentimental cards, Matt's in particular, he bought it at QFC while I waited in the car. I told Matt that my "gift" should he feel the need to do one, is that he start going through our junk in the office so we can transition from office/junk room to baby room. That, ironically, will be a gift for him as I can stop nagging.
Our day was wonderfully low-key as he had been sleeping off his previous night shift and I spent the day lounging in pajamas until mid-evening. (completely and totally worth it!) We went to our favorite Mexican restaurant, El Toreador, for dinner (thanks for the gift certificate Ma and Pa Anderson). After dinner, the kind inlaws had graciously housed and thawed the top tier of our wedding cake, so we headed over there to attempt to eat some of it.....
As this blog is titled, year old wedding cake just isn't that good. The frosting held up remarkably well, tasted pretty decent (I dont like frosting all that much, I need more cake, less frosting), the cake looked fine, but the champagne parts of the cake tasted a bit like I'd imagine antique leather to taste. The chocolate parts tasted fine, but in the end, I wanted cupcakes (my weakness). It was fun to see the cake in ultimtately good condition and remember moments from our wedding day. Matt was sure to remind me that the only cake he got at our wedding was the piece I fed him for the traditional first bite of wedding cake picture. Upon the subsequent bites, he seemed unimpressed and it was clear that a year later, he wasn't missing much.
no I'm not showing, it was a big shirt.
Still smiling! One year in, a lifetime to go!
