6 months old!

Its hard to believe that Cadence is 6 months old today! The last 6 months have simply flown by!

We "celebrated" her 1/2 birthday by going to see Dr. Ginsberg for her 6 month well baby check up. Cadence has contiued to grow like a champ. No one could ever tell that she arrived 4 weeks prematurely.

Today's Stats:
weight: 17lbs, 9oz (75-90%)
height: 26.5 inches (90%)
head circumference: (25-50%)
Immunizations: Dtap, Polio, HiB, Prevnar, RotaTeq. (handled them like a champ, screamed a few times, Matt comforted her and she moved on)

Cadence is a very active, social, and happy little girl. She plays happily independently as well as with mom, dad, aunties.... She enjoys rolling around, primarily from back to front but in the past few days has mastered rolling from front to back. She scoots with purpose and typically gets herself very close to the area or toy that she wants to get to. She isn't getting up on all fours yet but she's close. She still loves her exersaucer and happily plays there several times a day. Her favorite loveys (comfort items) are still her giraffes, both the small ones, crib sized blankie giraffe, pillow, and pillow pal. She's also into binks again but I normally only use them in the car, nap time, or when she's fussy. Toys keep her very occupied, Cadence loves her crinkley books, toy cell phone, and anything that rattles. She's very into grabbing things right now! She loves faces, toys, remotes, xbox controllers, cell phones, coffee cups, lap tops, pretty much anything Matt or I use, she goes for to try to gum.

Recently we introduced her to solid foods which was a HUGE success. She loves rice cereal and eats it once or twice a day. She also loves homemade peas, pears, and has tried carrots. She continues to love her "baas", although she has yet to hold them by herself yet.

Between now and her next well baby check (9months), we'll expect Cadence to start enjoying more solid foods and demonstrate the pincher grab indicating that we can give her baby puffs. She'll begin to get teeth (none yet), and hopefully she'll be crawling and beginning to pull herself into a standing position. She already babbles and coos but we're looking forward to her making more clear syllables (ma, da, ba, ga). I continue to sign with her regularly but she has yet to mimick them. Because she was 4 weeks early, is likely that her language skills will come later than other babies her age. This being said, she's ahead of the game in sitting (when placed there) and she is very strong when it comes to scooting and reaching for objects.

We can't believe how fast the last 6 months have gone but we look forward to the next with our very sweet little girl!

Remembering Julia

Today marks the 4 year anniversary since Julia passed away. I can't believe that she's been gone for that long. I have incredible memories of Julia and I can still hear her infectious laugh. She remains the strongest, most courageous person I've ever met.

Like any April 5th since her passing, I'm wearing pink, her signature color. Cadence is in pink from head to toe as well.

I take pride in knowing and loving such an amazing person. Today and each day, I celebrate her life. Julia's memory and legacy will live on forever and I think I'll make her proud when I put Cadence in dance classes when she's bigger.

Princess Party

Cadence went to her first princess birthday party and I'd be shocked if it was her last!

Our friends, Bruce and Emily, kindly invited us to their little girl, Hannah's, 3rd birthday! Its hard to believe that she's grown so quickly and it makes me fear for Cade's inevitable rapid growth.

I think the party was a meer preview for future birthdays for Cadence. I seem to remember Sophie going through a similar princess phase!

When we arrived to the party, multiple princes and princesses were painting their royal castles surrounded by princess couture. The girls were decked out in princess gowns that neither one stayed in too long, during the 2 hours we were there, Hannah changed at least 3 times. Arielle to Belle to Cinderella.

Cadence did really well given that the party was during her nap time. She was happy for most of the party, only fussing initially at some new faces and quickly warming up after a few cries and hugs and kisses from mom. She really IS a mama's girl! She enjoyed looking around at the activity around her (per normal) and sitting with and being held by various people. She did eventually fall asleep in my arms for a power nap but after 20 minutes, she was ready to party again.

We enjoyed visiting with friends and watching the princesses run around in dress up clothes. Cadence ended up being a huge hit at the party once things quieted down, all of the little kids wanted "pet the baby," which she tolerated remarkably well!

Happy Birthday to sweet Hannah, we can't believe you guys are moving back to California! :(

KPD Promotional Ceremony

Last week Cadence and I had the pleasure of barging in on Matt at work and join in the celebration of KPD's most recent promotional ceremony. A number of officers had tested recently for new corporal and sergeant positions to prepare for annexation, some of our close friends being the newly appointed supervisors. Not only were we supporting our friends from the department, this was a great excuse to dress Cadence up in an outfit that she's sure to outgrow before I blink. :)

The ceremony was very family friendly and casual, despite the promoted officers wearing their Class A uniforms. Kiddos of all ages were in attendance and most behaved well despite a few fussers in the crowd. Its crazy to see the KPD kiddos getting so big so fast and many families growing! Hard to believe that Cadence is growing as fast as she is, not too long ago she was the youngest baby of KPD and now she's older than several, with more on the way!

Congratulations to the newly promoted corporals, Ben Reali, Tim Carpenter, Lapaki Zablan, and our dearest Randi Crocker! Congratulations to the newly promoted sergeants, Brad Porter, Dan Willson, Phil Goguen, and Gary Eggleston! Also a job well done to the officers who received years of service awards, Jon Ishmael, Eric Karp, Tim Carpenter, and Kevin Christiansen!

Daddy dressed me.....

Daddy changed my diaper and this is what I ended up in. Concerning.

Freakishly Fast Five Months

I don't know where the time has gone, but Wee Cadence is already 5 months old!

She's a very sweet girl who is happy most of the time. These days, around 8:30pm, the day goes to hell and she fusses for no reason. Typically she goes to sleep between 9 and 11pm depending on her naps and the activities of the day. Most days, she takes 2 naps that are an hour + and often squeezes in a cat nap when needed.

She's very active right now, not quite sitting up on her own but close to it. She loves rolling on the floor and playing with her toys. She rolls from back to front and cries because she gets stuck on her tummy and hasn't quite figured out how to roll back. When she is on her tummy, she presses her body up like the up dog yoga pose. Very recently, she really started working on her hand eye coordination and will reach for objects and either play with them or gum them, including but not limited to her toys, the beloved giraffes, knuckles that don't belong to her and faces. I also reintroduced binks to her and she's remembered that she loves them, she is picky though and will only take the Nuk brand. So much for the heap of Soothie binks we have.

Cadence has also found her voice, oh crap. She babbles and squeals, screeches, and laughs. The kid is loud.

Still need a shot of her on Dad's lap in the patrol car, but this works for now....

Ever have one of those days when you were doing something and just fell asleep? Cadence appears to have narcolepsy during play time.
