Family Pictures 2010
A friend of mine started a blog with just family pictures and a creative idea: take a family picture once a month for a year. Wondering if we'd inadvertantly done that already, I started looking through hundreds of Cadence pictures only to realize we didn't have a family shot for January but multiple shots from other months.
So I failed miserably at my 365 blog of a picture a day, but I think I can manage a picture a month.
I present to you a collection of family pictures from 2010, followed by individual posts of new shots for 2011.

Too busy to blog!
Ok, ok, I'm a terrible blogger. Not only have I neglected the family blog, I've given up on my 365 blog. All I could think of or remember to do was Cadence pictures, and lets face it, that's not all that creative. Cuter than heck, but not creative.
The last two weeks at our house have been pleasantly busy as I've spent a majority of the time watching Chase and Landon Crocker. Wee went with me on day one and stayed with Matt, Grammy, or Auntie Cami for the remainder of the days as it was just easier to only have one baby to keep track of. As it turned out, leaving Cadence was a good thing as Chase began to teethe so he needed far more one on one attention and soothing than he normally does.
Landon continues to amaze me as he's turned into such a big boy! Part of our routine while I was playing Nanny Rachel (best title ever) was picking up Landon from school. I'd immediately hear of any discontent he had or that someone stepped on him, someone forgot something... you name it, he'd tell me. He's at the age now where he often times forgets good things, like what he had for snack and enjoyed, but if something negative happened, he wouldn't let it go. "Nanny Rachel, dad forgot to bring a can so I could make a penguin." "Nanny Rachel, that girl ran into me." or the one that made me chuckle yet got on my nerves "Nanny Rachel, I just wasn't into it." Where he picked that up, I have no clue. Landon's current obsessions include Legos, Bionicles, and Scooby Doo. As a belated Christmas present, I took the boys to Bellevue Square so Landon could choose some legos. What a negotiator he is!
Rachel : "Landon, you may choose 2 legos"
Landon: "Nanny Rachel, how about 3?"
Rachel: "How about 1?"
Landon: "Ok, 2."
Landon's attention to detail and ability to follow directions is amazing. He easily spent 5 or 6 hours building a lego scorpion. It was very complex and even I was having a hard time with some peices. Legos now are way harder than they used to be.
I thoroughly enjoyed me 5 days with the boys, I hope I can spend more time with them soon!
On the home front, we have some exciting job related news for Matt. Recently, he tested for the position of Training Officer for KPD and was selected! We're thrilled for the change of pace and responsibility for Matt. He's said multiple times that he's bored of patrol so I think learning new things will be a great break for him. His schedule will be normal for the first time in years! Instead of doing 2 7am-7pm day shifts back to back with 2 7pm-7am night shifts (4 days on 4 days off), he'll work 4 ten hours shifts from 0630-1630 (4:30pm). We're looking forward to spending evenings together as well as weekends and holidays. Matt's primary job duties will be keeping track of continuing education and training for the entire department and will be new hires' contact at the PD for orientation and squad/PTO assignments. Not only are the hours ideal, Matt gets to work with some of our closest friends and get a break from meaningless calls and the often poorly spoken dispatchers.
Miss Cadence continues to keep us busy and entertain us. She's growing like a week and has almost outgrown her 3month clothes. (She's very long). She's a very happy baby and has begun to laugh a little. She entertains us with her expressions, babbles, and attempts to move herself. She loves to stand on our laps with limited support. She has a new interest in her play mat with hanging toys. She's recently began to see an object and reach for it and put it to her mouth. She still adores her giraffe blanket and rarely sleeps or travels without it. Cadence has continued to be a great eatter albeit refluxy. She's extremely close to sleeping through the night too!

Centuries
Today, 1-18-11, while I celebrate a quarter of a century in years, my sweet Cadence joins me in celebrating a century of her own.... being a century of days old!
Adding to our special day, we'll be partying hard with Chase (5 months) and Landon (4 years) at their house as we get to babysit our favorite boys while Russ and Randi fight crime. We're excited to have 5 days (all individual) to spend with the boys playing and having adventures. Some may think I'm nuts for taking on 2 babies under 6 months, but they're so good! Landon's an amazing helper and thankfully, the babies still love their naps so the day won't be without challenges, but it'll be fun and certainly a reminder why I'm thankful to only have one baby at a time.

2011, Cops Gone Tamely Wild
The 2nd Saturday in January is annually one of my favorites! Hellloooooo KPD Banquet.
For those who don't know, the banquet is more or less the equivalent to a high school prom for adults, primarily those who protect and serve and their spouses who trade their guns, cuffs, and tazers for cuff links, cocktails, and sparkles.
This year, compared to years past, was mellow. Still a great time was had by all. I don't have tails of drunken debauchery, which is somewhat saddening, but alas, we had a baby to come home to. That being said, I thoroughly enjoyed time with adults, while drinking adult beverages.

Cadence Speaking More
Cadence's newly found voice continues to entertain us! Here are some new videos taken before bath time.....she had a lot to say to Matt..... she also had a lot to say when I put her to bed and she took that as an opportunity to babble, squalk, and screech to herself while I listened on the monitor.

Baby Talk
Cadence has found her voice in the last few days and has started to babble to us. We think its adorable right now that she tries to converse with us and play with sounds. We're sure that this is the beginning of the end, the word no is likely just around the corner but here's our sassy little girl "talking" to Matt at bedtime.

Baby Legs
Cadence still has some growing to do until she fully appreciates her jumper, but with newly found leg strength and wanting to stand and "jump" when she's held, I figured I'd try her in her door bouncer....with blankets rolled up to support her still wobbly torso.
While she hasn't gotten the hang of bouncing while suspended a bit, she liked twirling and was moderately occupied for a good 5-10 minutes.
I give you, my child appearing to be a hot air balloon basket.....

New Year, New Blog!
HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!
I hope everyone enjoyed celebrating New Year's Eve wherever you were.
We had a very mellow evening. Matt worked his 1st of 2 night shifts so Wee and I had Courtney and Connor over to my mom's house for an evening in. We thought it'd be fun to "dress up".... for the record (see pictures) we DID dress up, for a total of 10 minutes before throwing our dresses in a corner and exchanging them for PJs. Don't be jealous, it rocked.
Connor played happily with Joey and Wee slept for a majority of the evening. Courtney and I dined on macaroni bites from Trader Joe's (to die for), and mixed green salad with warm chicken breasts, cranberries, candied walnuts, pear slices, and goat cheese. DE-LISH!
With a sleepy baby and a 5 year old who could barely keep his eyes open, the evening ended way before midnight. I think I was home, unpacked, and ready to put Cadence to bed around 11:00! As the clock struck midnight, I think I was burping the baby as fireworks were going off near our condo.
Compared to riding along with Matt for DUI task force last night (a favorite of mine!!!), this year was
MEL-LOW! Not many complaints from me though!
With the start of the new year, I've decided to start a new blog, IN ADDITION to this one! Thank you to Amy and Barb for inspiring me to give the 365 blog a try. A Very Wee Christmas
Its hard to believe that Wee's first Christmas has come and gone in the blink of an eye!!! Although our little angel won't remember any of the events, its certain that we will!
The holidays in general have been interesting this year. Now that I'm a domestic diva, yep, thats right, DIVA, I actually can enjoy the holidays more. That being said, this is the first year in 4 or 5 years that I haven't worked Thanksgiving, Festivus, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day...... You get the point. Having worked ER long enough and being married to the PD's schedule, it wasn't that unusual to work, enjoying the holiday OT, and often trying to give the people with little kids the day off, in hopes that when it was my turn, someone would return the favor. Matt, unfortunately, was working his 2nd night shift on Christmas Eve. Since he'd be sleeping part of Christmas Day to recover, I decided some weeks ago that Wee and I would spend the night at my mom's house so Matt would have a quiet house and we could do the Basch family Christmas during the day and the Anderson portion at night time. The plan ended up working really well because Betsy spent the night too. I'll admit it was a bit surreal to be in my childhood home and my old bed, knowing I'm married now and I've got Cadence in the pack n play right next to me. All went very well though.
Betsy beat me to mom's on Christmas Eve where we had a mellow evening playing pass the baby and eating Tequila Lime Prawns, yum, and drinking pomegranate vodka mixed with whatever we could find to make it taste like juice. (that wasn't hard). Some of my girlfriends even came over to celebrate the holiday with us, Jenna, Nina, and Courtney with Connor. We all had a blast being entertained by Connor and his repeated statements of "I'm so happy and exited to be here!" and "I'm so happy to see you". Connor was well behaved and SUCH a doll with both Cadence and Joey. I'd say he spent time equally fawning over both. After more rounds of pass the baby and lots of conversation, I headed to Courtney's to help her wrap presents while Cader stayed with Nana and Aunt Betsy for a while.
Our night at the ol' stomping grounds went well and Wee only woke up twice.... now that in itself was a Christmas present! I woke up around 0730 Christmas morning, gave Joey his meds and pretty much started the day. We lazed around a lot and had a leisurely breakfast of scones (delish) and crustless but not low fat quiche. (Also extremely delish). After brekky, mom and I ended up snoozing a bit and we never got around to opening presents until after 1:00! Go figure.
Per normal, Betsy and I were spoiled, but we had fun spoiling mom this year too, we got her an iPad. One of the more entertaining parts of the gift was that mom repeatedly asked for it without being hinty. She had no idea what she'd do with it, but knew she wanted one. Bets and I enjoyed household products that we requested, candles, gift certificates to get our hair done, facials, massages, all things good! Wee got some toys that I'm sure she'll appreciate at some point, but I think they're creepy for now. (Sing-a-ma-jig) and some cute outfits and books.
After presents and our favorite tradition, mom's version of Christmas cosmos, Wee and I headed home to get Matt so we could head over for Christmas phase 2 at Ma and Pa Anderson's. No Christmas dinner is complete without the fabulous Dennis and Don and Dennis' cosmos! This year we even got red velvet cake. Did I mention that calories are nonexistent on Christmas??? The evening was also special since Uncle Pete and Aunt Kelsey were in town for the holiday and it was their first chance to meet Miss Cadence in person instead of on Skype.
Dinner was fantastic. We dined on ham, Swedish meatballs, mac' n cheese, potatoes, all things that no calorie conscious person would enjoy. Salad a la earring was also consumed.... somehow my mom lost an earring while preparing the salad.... The infamous earring was not only located, but located in Tom's mouth after it wound up on his plate hidden amongst the greens....... Clearly, we all thought this was funny. Other comical/memorable events from the evening would be Dennis walking in on my nursing Cadence and promptly exclaiming "thats not the bathroom!" (no, I was in the office) {Pretty sure he was more shocked than I was}, and the Jesus cake.... When Betsy and I were growing up, our mom had us sing "Happy Birthday" to Jesus in the ORIGINAL manger, not the overly colorful Mexican one she insists on using today. (I'm sorry, I don't do change and its not authentic and I'm quite positive Jesus didn't wear teal and red and gold, it was too flashy for him). Martha had thought there was a cake involved so she seemed quite surprised when I asked why there was a baby Jesus statue on a vanilla cake.... It made sense that there would be a cake involved but we never sang to the deity of baked goods before. We all had a good laugh at the slight misinterpretation of an old tradition. Perhaps we should have had cake all along!
Other funny moments included Dennis referring to himself, while holding Cadence, as "Auntie" Dennis. I don't think he'll ever be just Dennis again. Auntie seems remarkably fitting.
Since the day had been long and sleep was in short quantities, we decided to skip doing presents with Ma and Pa Anderson for the following day so the Christmas event could last longer. We had planned on having brekky with them Sunday anyways. Sunday's breakfast was amazing, decadent, and per my own ruling, calorie free. Bacon, sausage (turkey anyways), eggs, Danish Kringle, cardamon braid, and apple ebelskivers. Afterwards, we enjoyed exchanging gifts again. I enjoyed giving Ma and Pa Anderson Catch Phrase, and loved playing it for hours even more. That being said, it was NOT enjoyable having Matt on the opposing team.
Christmas 2010 was great overall. Its hard to believe next year Cadence will be one and terrorizing the tree, gifts, and likely not sitting still at all. Not only will we cherish this year's memories, but cherish the generally quiet and still baby that was perfectly portable!
